Education

Supply Chain Education is a primary mission of CSCMP and a major focus of the Columbus CSCMP Roundtable is to provide learning opportunities at the collegiate level in central Ohio. This is accomplished collaboratively and in several dynamic ways. From scholarships to internships, conference sponsorships, and university outreach, our dedication and commitment continues to grow and expand in this important arena. Our Board includes professors from local university logistics programs to help ensure active engagement with their student populations. Here are some of the significant ways in which we engage and support the local collegiate community:

Bernard J. LaLonde Scholarship

Established in 1990 through fund raising efforts of the Past Presidents of the Columbus Roundtable, an endowment was established at The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business to recognize the iconic achievements of Professor Dr. Bernard J. LaLonde in transforming the field of logistics and supply chain. As of 2022 spring semester, earnings from the endowment have awarded over $397,000 or 162 quarters/semesters of tuition to 83 undergraduate students majoring in logistics.

Kenneth B. Ackerman Supply Chain and Logistics Scholarship

In 2019, the Columbus Roundtable established a new scholarship fund at the Columbus State Community College Supply Chain Management Program. Recognizing Ken Ackerman’s tremendous contributions to supply chain education in the Columbus and greater Central Ohio region, as of fall semester 2022, the fund has disbursed $5,500 in tuition support to students.

Central Ohio College and University Outreach

The Columbus Roundtable usually sponsors up to 2 college students at the Global CSCMP convention every fall. This is a fantastic fully funded experience for students and provides invaluable exposure into the world of the supply chain and logistics industry while engaging in assignments with other students from around the world during the convention.

Internship Opportunities

The Columbus Roundtable provides internship opportunities to local college students pursuing a career in logistics and supply chain. The students gain valuable knowledge and experience by supporting our events, by attending board meetings, and participating on local Roundtable projects.

University Outreach

At least one event during the year is conducted jointly with local university logistics and supply chain management programs to promote awareness of the value of CSCMP membership to students in their fledgling careers. These events provide excellent opportunities for students pursuing or even just considering logistics and supply chain as a career to gain important knowledge and networking opportunities. Board members regularly participate in career panels and make themselves available as mentors to students desiring a stronger connection to their chosen career path. Board members also often share experience in the local university classroom settings.
