Roger W. Kallock

The Honorable Roger W. Kallock was first appointed Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Logistics) in May 1998 and then was nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Logistics & Materiel Readiness) in September 2000.

As the DUSD (L&MR), Mr. Kallock was the principal advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology and Logistics) for policy and oversight of the military departments’ logistics activities that annually cost taxpayers over $80B.  He also oversaw policy for the Department of Defense (DoD) in the specific functional areas of materiel management, maintenance, transportation, and logistics information systems, together with electronic commerce/electronic data interchange.  His extensive orientation to the defense community included: visits to over 60 military locations worldwide, congressional testimony, and keynoting many DoD logistics industry group meetings.

Since leaving DoD, Mr. Kallock founded Chagrin Consulting Associates and has focused his attention on issues relating to Change Leadership in Supply Chain management.  From his unique private sector/military logistics leadership experience, his passion is to accelerate the rate of sharing between military and private sector logisticians. In conjunction with Penn State’s Center for Supply Chain Research, he has participated in US Marine Corps logistics education programs on the subject of Change Leadership since 2001. He has also given presentations on the subject of Change Leadership in Supply Chain management to educational, government and industry organizations.

Before joining the DoD, Mr. Kallock was a Managing Partner at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). Prior to CSC, he was co-founder and chairman of Cleveland Consulting Associates (CCA), one of the world’s earliest advocates for integrating logistics management functions with information technology. At CCA, he assisted clients in improving supply chain related business processes including distribution, transportation, manufacturing planning, and customer service.

Over his career, Mr. Kallock has focused on the implementation of reengineered supply chain business processes and supporting information technology in a wide variety of industries including: computer products, consumer goods, health care, pulp and paper, and steel products. Other clients also included air, rail, truck and water carriers as well as third party logistics firms.

A native of Ware, Massachusetts, Mr. Kallock and wife Gail are long time residents of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Both are graduates of the University of Michigan with Mr. Kallock earning a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1961. He remains active in the integration of engineering and business education today as a member of the Industry Advisory Board of the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at Michigan. In October 2001, he received the Engineering Alumni Society Merit Award in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan.

In addition to an active family life inspired by five grandchildren, Mr. Kallock currently is involved in many local activities. He is Past President of the Chagrin Valley Rotary Club and on the Board of the Geauga County Habitat for Humanity. He can be contacted at: Rwkallock@windstream.net
